My name is Alex Ruder, simply known as DJ Alex on KEXP's airwaves. I'm a Seattle native who officially caught the radio bug while volunteering at UW’s Rainy Dawg Radio in the early 2000s, hosting two shows and serving as the station’s Electronic Music Director. I’ve been involved at KEXP since June 2005, starting out behind-the-scenes as a volunteer DJ assistant on Kevin Cole's Afternoon Show on Mondays. I started hosting on-air shows in 2008, handling a weekly overnight variety show from 2009-2017 and became part of the rotating DJ crew for KEXP’s Sunday night Electronic mix show, Expansions. I’m also the booker and producer for KEXP’s weekly guest DJ mix show Midnight in a Perfect World, a role I’ve handled since the show launched in 2015. I’ve been the host of KEXP’s Sunday morning ambient/neo-classical/bliss-out specialty show Pacific Notions since its introduction to KEXP's programming at the beginning of 2019, and I’ve been working full-time at KEXP since the summer of 2023 when I was hired as KEXP’s Associate Music Director.
