Prince Mural - Cundiff.jpg

"An Ocean of Violets in Bloom"

On view in the KEXP Gathering Space

Craig Cundiff’s “An Ocean of Violets in Bloom” is an interactive mural inspired by the introspective side of Prince. Using flower designs from Prince’s album Purple Rain, the mural invites the viewer to add their own favorite memory of Prince by adding a personalized flower to the mural. The end result offers a glimpse of how Prince affected his fans lives. This special interactive mural was prominently featured at the opening celebration of MoPop’s exhibit, Prince From Minneapolis, now on exhibit.

Craig Cundiff is a South Seattle-based artist born in New Orleans. After relocating subsequent to Hurricane Katrina, Cundiff has since established himself within Seattle’s robust art community with works ranging from murals including “Ebb and Flow” in the Mount Baker neighborhood in Seattle to solo shows such as “L’appel du Vide” featured at Image Gallery in Bushwick, Brooklyn. His figurative work leans toward a hyper chromatic color palette, with compositions that are as light as air, capturing and ethereal moment in time and space.
